Whenever most of us think about portable beds, out of all the various styles and designs that exist, what is usually thought of is the folding bed. This really is the classic portable bed.

That is not to say that the folding bed is the most portable of all the portable beds, as it is most certainly not. But it is reasonably portable.

Compared to other styled portable beds, the foldable bed looks very similar to a normal bed. It typically comes with legs that will fold down and the mattress will unfold also, giving you the common bed design that so many people want from a portable bed. There certainly is a lot to be said for sleeping elevated off the ground. This is certainly never truer than when camping, where being off the ground to sleep provides you with some safety from animals that move about on the ground!

Even in more civilised conditions, such as in your house, there is a lot to be said for bedding down raised off the floor. It gives a true sense of luxury compared to the lower down inflatable bed.

Storage is a bit more of a problem with the folding bed, however, than with the likes of the inflatable bed. Where the inflatable mattress will probably comfortably fit into a rucksack, the portable bed will only fold up a tad and needs to be kept in a closet or cabinet. It is still a very good space saver, however, and is a terrific thing to have when visitors come over to visit, But you will need a comfortable amount of space to keep it out of the way the remainder of the time.

In terms of preparation time, the foldable bed wins without a doubt over the inflatable bed. In a race, the person with the folding bed is going to be fast asleep in total luxury before the person with the inflatable bed is finished blowing up their bed. Refolding time is also a real winner for the folding bed; taking just a few moments to store away. Compared to the typical time it takes to deflate an inflatable mattress, it is virtually no time at all.

Folding mattresses are incredibly hard wearing, and are designed to last a very long time. The only comfort problem comes with prolonged use, where the folding point of the bedding could become soft and worn out. Generally, however, this is not an issue for most of us, who only make use of their folding beds once in a while.

The folding bed is the standard against which all other portable beds are measured.

Foldable beds can be convenient for kids and overnight guests.

And when they are not in use they are easy to store out of sight.
